Meet Fernando Vaz Alves

A Football Coach with a remarkable journey
 

Originally from Angola and shaped by the football scene in Portugal, Fernando's story is one of transformation – from a dedicated player to a passionate coach.

After playing in Portugal, Fernando's path shifted due to a serious back injury. In his early twenties, he found his calling in coaching, marking the start of his impactful career in shaping the future of goalkeeping.

​

Fernando's influence on Australian football is significant. With a strong history working with A-League Clubs and coaching at Football Federation Australia’s Centre of Excellence, he's had a lasting impact on the game. He contributed to championship winning seasons with Brisbane Roar and brought his expertise to the Wellington Phoenix.

​

His involvement with Australian national teams spanned over twelve pivotal years, honing the skills of the country's emerging goalkeepers. Now settled on the Gold Coast, Fernando looks forward to working with the next generation of keepers. He's excited to assess young talents during Gold Coast United's upcoming trials.

With a humble approach, Fernando believes in the power of strong technique, translating to smart decisions, crucial saves, clean sheets, and a winning mindset. His expertise comes from years of dedicated service to the sport.

In his words, "I bring a wealth of knowledge in goalkeeping from the years I’ve been doing the job. Good technique brings good decisions, which lead to saves, clean sheets, and a winning mentality."
